SEM

Overview

SEM are a precision manufacturer that design and build specialist motors for the likes of large satellite dishes. The company has a history stretching back to 1914 and has built an international reputation in its field since then.

SEM have a large facility in Dartford that comprises office space, a manufacturing warehouse and a large canteen known as the Break Bar. The team contacted us for input on workplace branding that would showcase their corporate values throughout the space and reinforce the company's vision of team.

To keep the office branding consistent, SEM highlighted four key areas to prioritise: the reception, the corridors, the warehouse and the Break Bar.

In the reception, SEM wanted a welcoming environment that also educated visitors on what the company does. We designed a welcome wall using a wide variety of languages all saying welcome, alongside a series of fabric banners held by fixings in both the ceiling and the floor. The banners showcase exploded motor parts under a filter made from the brand red. To complete the reception signage, we supplied and installed an acrylic sign behind the reception desk, along with a SEM logo cut from frosted material.

The next key space was the ground floor corridors. Here we pitched large office wall murals that were colour coded and tied to individual values through an icon and text. The colours were pulled from a logo we designed for the Together Better initiative. We also designed and installed a range of magnetic whiteboards for the team to use.

The third space was the large warehouse that houses the production facility. We proposed tall, thin versions of the value murals displayed along one wall, using strong visual repetition. These bursts of colour add a bright design feature that stays consistent with the corporate interior branding in the rest of the building.

The final space was the Break Bar, the canteen and breakout area for all staff. SEM wanted a design that gave the space its own brand feel, separate from the rest of the building. Taking that brief, we created a range of unique designs, including table wraps, wall murals, hanging signage, window graphics and small value boards. Together, the office signage, murals and graphics link every area of the site back to SEM's values.
