Jargon buster: Print and cut graphics
Welcome to another instalment of Jargon Buster. As we explained in our first blog of this type we want to periodically take a term from the graphic world and unpack it very briefly in order to demystify its meaning and make your shopping experience much easier.
This time around we want to take a look at the term ‘print and cut graphics’. In order to best explain this I am going to break it down into its two individual components: print and then cut.
Print is simply the process of producing a design through the use of our large format CMYK printers, however what isn’t so clear is that printing is very different to the process taken for creating standard vinyl graphics. Standard vinyl graphics use rolls of solid colour vinyl that are cut to shape and use only the colours available on our colour chart. So when you request a printed graphic you are not limited to our colour chart which means you have the freedom to pick almost any colour you can image. Printing gives you much greater control to colour match to your brand’s colourways or to your new cushions in your living room. If you would like to discuss our colour matching service please contact our sales team using the ‘contact us’ page.
Cut
Cutting or Contour Cutting as we call it is the process of loading your printed design or standard vinyl graphic onto a specialist piece of machinery where a blade follows a pre-set path around the shape of the design. By creating a path it means we can perfectly sculpt a sticker that doesn’t need a white or transparent background or edge.
Taking the example of the text above the cutting path will trace around each and every letter as well as around the centre of letters with hollow aspects. Once the cutting has been finished our talented team will remove all the excess vinyl, which will allow the wall to show through when applied and give the appearance that the design is painted onto the wall. By using cut contours in this way it gives your wall sticker a highly professional finish that means we do not have to use transparent materials or borders that can make your design look cheap.
Hopefully that is now clear and when you hear the term you will understand what our sales team are chatting on about. In short, if your talking about Vinyl Impression’s print and cut graphics you are talking about a high quality precision sculpted environmental graphic that is going to make your space look amazeballs.
